After three seasons at the helm of the Grants High School football program, head coach Steve Brown has stepped down.
Brown, who led the Pirates to three state playoff berths, made the announcement via social media Thursday (January 22).
“This journey has been filled with lifelong memories, lessons, and relationships that I will always cherish,” Brown said in part. “I want to sincerely thank God and my family for their overwhelming support through the years.”
Brown spent 24 years between his coaching and playing days, including as an assistant under multiple Grants High coaches.
“Thanks to the Head Coaches I had the privilege of working under and learning from: especially, Rio Thompson. Your leadership and mentorship helped shape the coach I became,” Brown said.
“To all of the assistant coaches I’ve worked alongside over the past 20 years—thank you for your dedication, loyalty, and countless hours invested in our program. It was an honor to share the sidelines with you.”
The Grants native was hired in June 2023.z.
Brown led the Pirates to two playoff victories in his three seasons and will finish with a 19-16 overall win/loss record.
“Most importantly, thank you to the thousands of players for trusting me, pushing me, and allowing me to be part of your journey, and to the administration for giving me the honor and responsibility of serving as your coach,” Brown said.
