Here at GHS, clubs are highly encouraged to get students involved in
school events and activities.
New this year is the AVID (Advancement Via Individual
Determination) leadership club led by Coach Josh Pacheco.
“AVID is a career and college readiness program designed to
establish a strong foundation for students academically and socially
for post secondary school,” Pacheco said to The Gazette. “AVID’s
purpose is to assist students in understanding what they want to do
after high school.
“We want to prepare students academically to be successful after
high school and give them the opportunity to see other and all
options available to them.”
AVID is a club as well as a class. This class was introduced last year to freshmen and is now open for
all grades.
“The class gives a lot of information on college opportunities to visit colleges as well as helps prepare
you for after high school,” Pacheco said. “The club focuses on community leadership and
participation in our community events. Giving a lot of options for volunteer hours as well as
involvement in local events.”
If you’re interested in AVID, reach out to Coach Pacheco in room 434 or at
