If you are picking up this paper (or reading the online version), first off, thank you! What you have is the first of many issues planned for The GHS Gazette.

Under the Angry Jack Productions umbrella, The Gazette is starting as a bi-weekly newspaper with the plan to turn into a weekly student-run newspaper in the not-too-distant future.

The origins and inspiration for this paper can trace its roots back to other versions of student publications on campus over the years including The Port Dispatch newspaper of the mid-2000s and the High Seas Monthly during the 2019-2020 school year.

On top of the print edition, the stories that students write will also be available digitally on a new website that will launch soon. So not to worry – if you do not get a physical copy, you will be able to see the paper in its entirety online.

With over 40 students between the two journalism classes, this paper will serve the student population with many topics including – but not limited to – timely hard news, features, sports, and other areas of interest.

Between the two of us, we hope our experience working in newspapers and digital media will help our students learn more about what it takes to put a newspaper together, develop good news judgement, meet tight deadlines, and work together as a team.

If you see any students associated with The Gazette around campus, please share your news tips and ideas with them (and us too!). We’re always looking for stories, and know there is plenty of news to cover on campus.

If you’d like to submit news tips electronically, look for the newly-printed “GHS Gazette News Tip” posters found throughout campus, designed by our journalism students.
